Who we are

ColegauCymru / CollegesWales is the national organisation representing all 13 further education (FE) colleges and institutions in Wales. Created in 1993 as an educational charity and a company limited by guarantee, it was known as "fforwm" until its renaming in 2009.

CollegesWales offices are based in Tongwynlais, Cardiff, where the core staff is based, and a small team of consultants.

Through CollegesWales, colleges are represented on various committees, working parties and other groups that influence and shape policy in post-16 education and life-long learning. In the main, CollegesWales' senior staff serve as the representatives on these groups. Individual board members, principals, and senior staff from member colleges may also be nominated by the CollegesWales board, chief executive, or by a CollegesWales network to represent colleges on particular areas of policy or committees.

Management & Governance

TThe Board of Trustees are collectively responsible for the charity’s long-term success. The Board sets its strategic aims, monitors the performance of management against the strategic aims, ensures good governance, assesses its risk appetite and ensures that robust processes are in place to challenge information and make informed decisions on the charity’s performance and viability.

Following a strategic review of ColegauCymru, Members approved at an EGM on 18 July 2017 changes to the charity’s constitutional structure and its governing document which came into effect on 1 August 2017.

The changes comprised of a new representational group structure within the charity, with its own terms of reference, focused on policy and issues affecting the post-compulsory education sector, namely the CEO/Principals’ Forum.

Under the revised Articles of Association, the Chair and Deputy Chair of the CEO/Principals’ Forum are appointed the Chair and Deputy Chair of the newly constituted charity Board. The Board comprises of a minimum of five and a maximum of six Trustees. Up to two Chairs of Governing Bodies and a maximum of two independent external professionals maybe appointed Trustees. The Chair and Deputy Chair serve concurrently for two years whilst the other Trustees may serve for an initial three years, with the option to seek re-appointment for a further three-year term.

Under the newly constituted model, membership has been widened to include Associate Membership. If you are interested in becoming an Associate Member of CollegesWales, please contact Julie Osman E : julie.osman@collegeswales.ac.uk DL : 02920 528385.
